Admire Moon Wins Gr1 Dubai Duty Free

Monday, 2nd April 2007

Ill-fated former Arrowfield Stud shuttler End Sweep (Forty Niner-Broom Dance, by Dance Spell) added a Gr1 triumph when Japanese 4YO entire Admire Moon (End Sweep-My Katies, by Sunday Silence) scored a half-length victory in the US$5 million Gr1 Dubai Duty Free (1777m on turf) at Nad Al Sheba. Northern Farm-bred Admire Moon (ridden by Yutaka Take for trainer Hiroyoshi Matsuda) defeated the Aga Khan's fast-finishing Irish-bred 5YO Linngari (Indian Ridge-Lidakiya, by Kahyasi) & Japanese 6YO Daiwa Major (Sunday Silence-Scarlet Bouquet, by Northern Taste). At his previous start Admire Moon scored by a neck over last year's Gr1 Melbourne Cup runner-up Pop Rock in Japan's Gr2 Kyoto Kinen (2200m on turf) at Kyoto; & previously he also won 2006's Gr2 Yayoi Sho (2000m on turf) at Nakayama & Gr3 Kyodo News Service Hai (1800m on turf) at Tokyo, as well as notching Gr1-placings in both October's Gr1 Tenno Sho-Autumn (2000m on turf) at Tokyo & December's Gr1 Hong Kong International Cup (2000m) at Sha Tin. Overall Admire Moon now boasts 8 wins from 13 starts. Australian entrant Pompeii Ruler (ridden by Craig Newitt for trainer Mick Price) finished 8th in the field of 16.
