Coalesce Wins Neville Sellwood Stakes

Monday, 2nd April 2007

NZ Cambridge Stud's multiple champion sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram-Lady Giselle, by Nureyev) added a black-type success when 6YO gelding Coalesce (Zabeel-Essylt, by Artaius) made it 2 successive stakes-wins in a fortnight after gaining the judge's verdict in a 3-way photo-finish to the $100,000 Listed Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill. Coalesce (ridden by Darren Beadman for trainer John Hawkes) scored by a nose from favoured 5YO gelding Molotov (Grand Lodge-Admit Anywhere, by Zabeel) with a further short-neck to fellow 5YO gelding Ausbred King (Masterclass-Stormy Zephyr, by Zephyr Bay). Coalesce (a $140,000 yearling consigned by Cambridge Stud at the 2002 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) now has 8 wins (also including last start's Listed Sky High Stakes over 1900m at Rosehill on March 17, plus 2006's Gr3 Bill Ritchie Handicap over 1400m & Gr3 Premier's Cup over 2200m) & 6 placings (including runner-ups in both 2005's Gr3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2500m & Listed Werribee Cup over 2000m) from 24 starts for $444,500 earnings.
