Divine Madonna Wins Gr1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes

WA's Durham Lodge-based stallion Hurricane Sky (Star Watch-Dancing Show, by Nijinsky) added a Gr1 triumph when favoured 4YO mare Divine Madonna (Hurricane Sky-My Madonna, by Prego) produced her trademark explosive finish from well back in the field to scored a 1-length victory in the $400,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m) for fillies & mares at Rosehill. Divine Madonna (ridden by Glen Boss for trainer Mark Kavanagh) defeated 3YO filly Cheeky Choice (Redoute's Choice-Christchurch, by Caerleon) & fellow 4YO mare Beauty Watch (Belong To Me-Rush For Gold, by Quack). Divine Madonna (an $82,500 yearling at the 2004 Magic Millions Adelaide Sale) now has 6 wins (also including November's Gr1 Emirates Stakes over 1600m at Flemington, plus 2006's Gr2 Melbourne Cup Carnival Preview Stakes over 1410m & 2005's Listed Twilight Glow Stakes over 1400m) & 6 placings (including last start in the Gr1 Coolmore Classic over 1500m at Rosehill on March 17, plus 2006's Gr2 Tristarc Stakes over 1400m, Listed Jeep Stakes over 1200m & Listed James Carr Stakes over 1400m, as well as 2005's Listed Schweppervescence Stakes over 1200m) from 19 starts for $1,164,890 earnings.
