Langfuhr Adds US Gr3

Monday, 2nd April 2007

Former Vinery Stud shuttler Langfuhr (Danzig-Sweet Briar Too, by Briartic) added a US group success when Canadian-bred 5YO gelding Jambalaya (Langfuhr-Muskrat Suzie, by Vice Regent) scored a half-length victory in the US$150,000 Gr3 Pan American Handicap (12 furlongs on turf) at Gulfstream Park. Jambalaya (ridden by Javier Castellano for trainer Catherine Day-Phillips) defeated Hotstufanthensome (Awesome Again-Don't Read My Lips, by Turkoman) & Fri Guy (Theatrical-Stormy Squall, by Summer Squall). Jambalaya (purchased for just US$2,500 at the 2003 Keeneland September sale) took his record to 7 wins (also including last start's Gr1 Gulfstream Park Breeders' Cup Turf over 11 furlongs on February 24, plus 2006's Listed Singspiel Handicap over 12 furlongs at Woodbine in Canada & 2005's Gr3 Saranac Stakes over 9.5 furlongs at Saratoga, as well as Canada's Breeders' Stakes at Woodbine) & 6 placings (including the Gr3 Canadian Turf Handicap over 8.5 furlongs at Gulfstream Park on February 3) from 18 starts for US$889,793 earnings.
