Vengeance Of Rain Wins Gr1 Dubai Sheema Classic

NZ's Cambridge Stud-based multiple champion sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram-Lady Giselle, by Nureyev) recorded an international Gr1 triumph when New Zealand-bred 6YO gelding Vengeance Of Rain (Zabeel-Danelagh, by Danehill) scored a 1.25-lengths victory in the US$5 million Gr1 Dubai Sheema Classic (2400m on turf) at Nad Al Sheba. Vengeance Of Rain (ridden by Anthony Delpech for trainer David Ferraris) defeated fast-finishing South African-bred 5YO Oracle West (Western Winter-Noble Prophet, by Noble Ambition) & Irish-bred 4YO Youmzain (Sinndar-Sadima, by Sadler's Wells). Vengeance Of Rain (who raced in Australia as Subscribe for Melbourne owner Lloyd Williams before being sold to HK) was a NZ$300,000 yearling at the NZB 2002 Premier Sale at Karaka & subsequently won the Gr1 HK Derby, Gr1 Champions & Chater Cup, Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup, Gr1 HK International Cup & Gr2 International Cup Trial to finish 2005 as World Racing Series Champion. He then spent 10 months away from the track (including a lengthy spell at Cambridge Stud in NZ) before returning in late 2006 & duly finishing 3rd in December's Gr1 Hong Kong International Cup (2000m). Last start Vengeance Of Rain won the Gr1 HK Gold Cup (2000m) at Sha Tin on March 4 & overall now boasts 10 wins from 22 starts for US$7.9 million earnings.
