Encosta 3YO Breaks Sha Tin Record

Tuesday, 3rd April 2007

Fellow Coolmore sire Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek, by Star Way) gained a major boost when unbeaten Australian-bred 3YO Sacred Kingdom (Encosta de Lago-Courtroom Sweetie, by Zeditave) smashed the 1000m course record at Sha Tin while recording his 4th successive Hong Kong victory from only 4 starts. Sacred Kingdom (ridden by Australian jockey Dan Nikolic) ran 54.7sec to slice a half-second from the old record (set in April 2000) & trainer Ricky Yiu declared: "This is a very, very exciting horse! From the moment we started working him along, we knew he was way above ordinary. Today he looked very special, but the most important thing to me is what it tells me about his future. This horse is just beginning." Sacred Kingdom was a $200,000 yearling at the 2005 Inglis Premier Sale in Melbourne; his sire Encosta de Lago has 49 yearlings catalogued for next week's Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney.
