30 Years Jail For Drug Dealer Who Corrupted UK Racing

Wednesday, 4th April 2007

In Europe, Brian Wright "described as the UK's richest drug dealer & being responsible for almost single-handedly corrupting racing, has been jailed for 30 years after being found guilty of flooding Britain with cocaine worth hundreds of millions of pounds," reported racingpost.co.uk. Wright, 60 (born in Cork in Ireland, but who lived in Britain from age 12) "laundered his drug money by betting heavily on horseracing". Wright (known as The Milkman because he always delivered) was banned from racing for 20 years in 2002. Detectives "will now attempt to claw back millions of pounds from Wright's empire, which is believed to include luxury properties stretching from Jamaica to Johannesburg"; in 2004 he was said to be worth £600 million (A$1.44 billion) in The Sunday Times newspaper.
