Churchill Downs Retired To Blue Gum Farm

Thursday, 5th April 2007

Last season's boom juvenile colt Churchill Downs (Danehill-Silken Whisper, by Diesis) will make his stallion debut at Victoria's Blue Gum Farm later this year. The first colt home in both the 2006 Gr1 STC Golden Slipper Stakes (3rd) and the GCTC Magic Millions 2YO Classic (2nd), Churchill Downs raced 15 times for 3 wins (including the Listed AJC Widden Stakes, 1100m as a 2YO & Gr2 MVRC Bill Stutt Stakes, 1600m as a 3YO) and 5 placings (also including the Gr1 VRC Ascot Vale Stakes, 1200m, and a close 4th in the Gr1 MRC Caulfield Guineas, 1600m) for $763,875 prizemoney. Commenting on the $950,000 yearling consigned by Strawberry Hill Stud at the 2005 Magic Millions Premier Sale on the Gold Coast, Blue Gum Farm studmaster Philip Campbell said: "Churchill Downs was a legitimate Gr1 performer at both 2 & 3 years of age and we believe that his own precocious talent will see him prove to be a valuable addition to the Australian breeding industry." Churchill Downs' service fee has been set at $13,200.
