Captivate Wins NZ Gr1 Breeders' Stakes

Tuesday, 10th April 2007

In New Zealand, Cambridge Stud's Coolmore-owned shuttler Stravinsky (Nureyev-Fire The Groom, by Blushing Groom) celebrated a Group success win when Captivate (Stravinsky-Cappie, by Kaapstad) proved too strong in the NZ$150,000 Gr1 NZB Breeders' Stakes (1600m) for fillies & mares at Te Aroha. Ridden by Samantha Spratt for trainer Stephen McKee, Captivate followed in the footsteps of Surprize Surprize, Zirna, Saint Cecile, Rockabubble and Arlingtonboulevard, who had each won the prestigious mile since its elevation to Gr1 status. Second, beaten 3/4 of a length was 3YO filly Irlanda (O'Reilly-Cenphic, by Centaine) with the same margin to 6YO mare Sarajay (Danasinga-Sriwijaya, by Last Tycoon).
