Fiumicino Wins Gr1 Australian Derby

In Australia Cambridge Stud's leading stallion Zabeel (Sir Tristram-Lady Giselle, by Nureyev) added a major Group success when gelding Fiumicino (Zabeel-Latte, by Maroof) won the $1,925,000 Gr1 Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick. Fiumicino (ridden by Darren Beadman for trainer John Hawkes, their 4th on the card) scored by 1.75 lengths from colt Ambitious General (General Nediym-Lake Legoda, by Military Plume) with a further 5 lengths to filly Tuesday Joy (Carnegie-Joie Denise, by Danehill). Fiumicino (a NZ$425,000 yearling consigned by Cambridge Stud at the 2005 NZB Premier Sale at Karaka) now has 3 wins & 2 placings (including 3rd in the Gr1 Rosehill Guineas) from 6 starts for $1,284,450 earnings.
