Joyful Winner Wins Hong Kong Gr1 Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup

Tuesday, 10th April 2007

Emirates Park Stud's stallion and sire of champion Silent Witness, El Moxie (Conquistador Cielo-Raise The Standard, by Hoist The Flag) celebrated a significant international victory in Hong Kong yesterday when Australian-bred 6YO gelding Joyful Winner (El Moxie-Northern Tycoon, by Last Tycoon) made it back-to-back wins in the Gr1 HK$4.5 million Group One Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup (1400m). A $24,000 yearling, consigned by Emirates Park, at the 2002 Magic Millions National Sale on the Gold Coast, Joyful Winner defeated 7YO gelding The Duke (Danehill-Mer du Sud, by Bluebird) by 1.25 lengths with a further 1/4 length to 4YO gelding Down Town (Scenic-Twain, by Kenvain). The victory, his 10th from 27 starts, took Joyful Winner's earnings to the equivalent of just over A$2 million. He is likely to be targeted at Japan's Gr1 Yasuda Kinen, a race in which he finished 3rd last year when ridden by Darren Beadman. First, though, he will run in the Gr1 Champions Mile at Sha Tin on April 29.
