Gallic Wins Gr1 Sydney Cup

Monday, 16th April 2007

Providing yet another Gr1 win for Cambridge Stud's evergreen stallion Zabeel (Sir Tristram-Lady Giselle, by Nureyev) a blanket finish to this year's $800,000 Gr1 AJC Sydney Cup (3200m) was won by 7YO gelding Gallic (Zabeel-Gesine, by Nassipour). He hadn't raced since winning the Gr1 Adelaide Cup in early March, but closed strongly down the outside to defeat 4YO gelding Irazu (Encosta de Lago-Morrigan Clare, by Toy Pindarri) and last start winner 5YO gelding No Wine No Song (Song Of Tara-Deep Time, by Kinjite). Steven Arnold had the ride on Gallic for trainer Graeme Rogerson in the familiar Lloyd Williams colours. A NZ$170,000 yearling at the 2001 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka, Gallic now has 7 wins & 10 placings from 21 starts for $1,161,550 earnings.
