Hong Kong Breeders Buy Into Towkay
In other news out of New Zealand, impeccably bred sire Towkay (Last Tycoon-Princess Tracy, by Ahonoora) has a major new shareholder in the Hong Kong Breeders Club following a visit by the Club's co-founder Peter Yip on Friday to Little Avondale Stud, where Towkay stands. The deal - for a substantial undisclosed amount - was negotiated by Michael Wallace Bloodstock, Cambridge, along with Badger Bloodstock in England. Yip said Towkay had become very well known as a sire in Hong Kong through the deeds of his NZ-bred son son Armada who won the Gr1 HK$8 million Hong Kong Stewards Cup (1600m) at Sha Tin racecourse in January and was Hong Kong's most improved horse of 2006. Trained by Le Freedman, Towkay had 3 wins & 7 placings from 23 starts for $235,500 earnings. He was stakes-placed on a number of occasions, including the Gr1 VRC Salinger Stakes (1200m) when denied a run at a vital stage.
