Inglis Broodmare 2: Coup For Bloodstock Agent Bester
Yesterday's record-breaking sale of Virage de Fortune, whose victories include the Gr1 sprint double of the MVRC Australia Stakes and QTC Sires' Produce Stakes was a personal coup for well known bloodstock agent James Bester. Bester, who has a close association with Coolmore Stud, and has developed a reputation for an astute eye, purchased Virage de Fortune for $70,000 as a yearling, consigned by Segenhoe Stud, at the 2004 Magic Millions Premier Sale on the Gold Coast. His decision to retain a share in the grand-daughter of champion racemare Emancipation has been parlayed into a bonanza. In a broodmare "trifecta" for auction house William Inglis & Son, Emancipation was sold at the 1995 Inglis Broodmare Sale for $180,000, Virage de Fortune's dam, Virage, was sold at the 2000 Inglis Broodmare Sale for $200,000, and now Virage de Fortune has sold for a record $3.4 million.
