Inglis Broodmare Day 3: Santry Buys Grand Armee's Dam

Thursday, 19th April 2007

Colm Santry paid yesterday's top price on day 3 of the Inglis Select Broodmare Sale when parting with $440,000 for Tambour (Marauding-Voltage, by Whisky Road). Lot 688, consigned by Segenhoe Stud, Tambour is the dam of former Australian 7-time Gr1 winner Grand Armee; a 6-time winner herself, she is a half-sister to the dam of star Hong Kong galloper Absolute Champion (who raced in Australia as Genius And Evil). "Tambour's an outstanding mare, just look at her pedigree, very current and on the move. She was a top racemare in her own right, she's got a great family and, to top it all off, she's in foal to Lonhro whose yearlings sold through the roof at Easter last week. At this stage Tambour has been earmarked for Rock of Gibraltar," Santry pointed out. Tambour's full sister Eldarin had her Group-winning Redoute's Choice colt Mearas, sell to Woodlands Stud for $1.1 million from the Easter Sale ring.
