Desert King Relocates To Independent Stallions

Tuesday, 24th April 2007

With the retirement of Lynden Park matriarch Jill Ross from standing stallions at the family's Mornington Peninsula property, Independent Stallions Victoria has won the right to stand hugely successful Danehill sire-son Desert King (Danehill-Sabaah, by Nureyev). He is the sire of both triple Gr1 VRC Melbourne Cup winner and dual Horse of the Year Makybe Diva & also Desert War, the multiple Gr1-winning weight-for-age star from the Gai Waterhouse stable. Independent Stallions is owned and operated by Mike Becker (elected last week as the new president of Thoroughbred Breeders Australia), who commented: "I am delighted to stand him.... he is a lovely horse; a top class racehorse with a great pedigree. And he is still a young horse... only 13, he has so much ahead of him." In 2007 Independent Stallions is also standing Arazi, newcomer Artie Schiller, Beckett, Brief Truce, Denon, Ice Point & King Of Roses.
