Magic Millions Yearlings Primed For South African 2YO Features
Following a strong 2.5 lengths debut win at The Vaal (south of Johannesburg) $1.025 million 2006 Magic Millions graduate Seventh Rock (Rock Of Gibraltar-Ruby Clipper, by Rubiton) will take his place in the R500,000 (A$85,000) Gr2 The Nursery (1200m). Among a number of high profile yearlings purchased by leading South African trainer Charles Laird at the Gold Coast last year, Seventh Rock's dam Ruby Clipper is a daughter of Gr1 Australasian Oaks winner Miss Clipper, but did her racing in South Africa where her 10 wins included the Gr1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship (1200m) at Scottsville in Kwa-Zulu Natal's Pietermaritzburg. She also placed twice at Gr1 level and was brought back to Australia by Magic Millions part-owner & Strawberry Hill Stud principal John Singleton. Seventh Rock won his race by 2.5 lengths hard held. Another Laird buy at the 2006 Magic Millions Premier Sale is also set to run in the same feature: $825,000 yearling Uber Rock (Rock Of Gibraltar-Uberfrau, by Sadler's Wells), consigned by Coolmore Stud, also won on debut at The Vaal before returning from a freshen-up with an excellent 2nd placing in the Gr3 Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket in Johannesburg. A 3rd Magic Millions graduate is expected to run in the corresponding fillies feature on the same card, unbeaten Lady Bonzer (Choisir-Lady Durelle, by Raveneux), a $90,000 Andy Williams buy consigned by Edinglassie Stud.
