Galileo Australian No-Show A Commercial Decision

Friday, 27th April 2007

Meanwhile, Coolmore Stud's Australian general manager Michael Kirwan has told The Sydney Morning Herald that "the decision to give Galileo a season off in Australia was a commercial one from its European base". When Coolmore announced its fees after Easter, Galileo was conspicuous by his absence. Kirwan explained that with Europe's most successful stallion Sadler's Wells (who stands at Coolmore Ireland) "in the twilight of his career.... Galileo is his likely successor". The son of Sadler's Wells is in very high demand in Europe, and that demand may shortly be ratcheted up a notch should short-priced favourite Teofilo (undefeated in 5 starts) win the Gr1 English 2,000 Guineas next month.
