Able One Wins HK Gr1 Champions Mile

Monday, 30th April 2007

Also in Hong Kong yesterday, Darley shuttler Cape Cross (Green Desert-Park Appeal, by Ahonoora) added a Gr1 triumph when 4YO NZ-bred gelding Able One (Cape Cross-Gardenia, by Danehill) scored a 1.25-lengths victory in the third leg of the 2007 Asian Mile Challenge, the HK$8 million (A$1.3m) Gr1 Champions Mile (1600m) at Sha Tin. Able One (also ridden by Mick Kinane for expatriate Australian trainer John Moore) defeated Gr1-winning stable-mate & Australian-bred 6YO gelding Joyful Winner (El Moxie-Northern Tycoon, by Last Tycoon) & Australian-bred 7YO gelding The Duke (Danehill-Mer Du Sud, by Bluebird). Able One (bred by Sir Patrick Hogan) has won 4 races, but was out-of-action for 9 months with an off-hind leg injury before returning for a Class 2 victory at this distance in February.
