Cara Rafaela (dam of 2006 US champion 3YO male & new Darley shuttler Bernardini) was named Broodmare-Of-The-Year by the Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum's Darley operation, 14-year-old Cara Rafaela (Quiet American-Oil Fable, by Spectacular Bid) is the dam of 3 winners from 6 foals of racing age. Her A.P.Indy colt Bernardini earned US$3,060,480 while winning 6 of 8 starts (including the 2006 Gr1 Preakness Stakes, Gr1 Travers Stakes, Gr1 Jockey Club Gold Cup, Gr2 Jim Dandy Stakes & Gr3 Withers Stakes); he also finished runner-up in the 2006 Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic before retiring to stud. Cara Rafaela (who has also produced Ile de France, a Storm Cat filly which finished 3rd in the 2002 Gr1 Santa Anita Oaks (G1) herself won both the 1995 Gr1 Hollywood Starlet Stakes & Gr2 Alcibiades Stakes among 4 victories from 24 starts & US$884,452 earnings.
