Monday, 30th April 2007

In Japan yesterday, last season's dual Classic-winning 4YO entire Meisho Samson (Opera House-My Vivien, by Dancing Brave) defeated a field of top stayers in a 3-way photo-finish to the prestigious ¥256.24 million (A$2.9m) Gr1 Tenno Sho Spring (3200m on turf) for 4YOs & up at Kyoto. Meisho Samson (ridden by Mamoru Ishibashi for trainer S.Takahashi) scored by a nose from Erimo Expire (Scatter The Gold-Erimo Brownie, by Commander In Chief) with a further neck to Tokai Trick (El Condor Pasa-Zoonaqua, by Silver Hawk). Last year's Gr1 Melbourne Cup winner Delta Blues finished 7th. In 2006 Meisho Samsons won the initial 2 legs of the Japanese 3YO Triple Crown: the Gr1 Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) & Gr1 Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby).
