Irish Track Tralee Sold To Developers

Monday, 3rd September 2007

Also in Ireland, last week's Tralee festival "could have been the final meeting staged at the County Kerry course after officials issued a shock weekend statement announcing they had voted to sell the racecourse for redevelopment," reported racingpost.co.uk. An extraordinary general meeting of shareholders of Ballybeggan Park Race Company (owners of the course) was held in the town's Brandon Hotel "with more than 80% of directors voting in favour of selling to developers Seamus O'Halloran & John Casey". The Tralee directors said they found it "a very difficult decision", but "claimed their hands were effectively tied as racing at Ballybeggan Park was no longer economically viable, or sustainable, due to considerable on-going financial losses".
