Monday, 3rd September 2007

In the US, former Vinery Stud shuttler Langfuhr (Danzig-Sweet Briar Too, by Briartic) added a Gr1 triumph when favoured 4YO entire Lawyer Ron (Langfuhr-Donation, by Lord Avie) "unleashed a devastating turn of foot at the top of the stretch & accelerated clear to a 2nd consecutive tour de force performance" in the US$500,000 Gr1 Woodward Stakes (9 furlongs) at Saratoga in New York, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. At his previous start Lawyer Ron (ridden by John Velazquez for trainer Todd Pletcher) overwhelmed his rivals by 4.75-lengths & smashed the track record in the Gr1 Whitney Handicap (9 furlongs) at Saratoga on July 28; this time he "left 7 rivals reeling in his wake as he streaked away to a dominant 8.25-lengths romp" over 5YO entire Sun King (Charismatic-Clever But Costly, by Clever Trick) & 4YO gelding Diamond Stripes (Notebook-Romantic Summer, by On To Glory). Kentucky-bred Lawyer Ron now has 12 wins (also including the 2006 Gr2 Arkansas Derby, Gr3 Rebel Stakes, Listed St Louis Derby & Southwest Stakes, plus this year's Gr2 Oaklawn Handicap, as well as 3rd in May's Gr1 Metropolitan Handicap over 8 furlongs at Belmont Park & runner-up in June's Gr3 Salvator Mile Handicap at Monmouth Park) from 24 starts for US$2,640,008 earnings.
