Midnight Lute Wins US Gr1 Forego Handicap

Fellow former Vinery Stud shuttler & 1998 Gr1 Kentucky Derby winner Real Quiet (Quiet American-Really Blue, by Believe It) also added a Gr1 triumph when 4YO entire Midnight Lute (Real Quiet-Candytuft, by Dehere) "surged past the front runners midway around the turn & powered home" to a 2.25-lengths victory in the US$250,000 Gr1 Forego Handicap (7 furlongs) at Saratoga, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Midnight Lute (ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan for trainer Bob Baffert) defeated fast-finishing fellow 4YO entire Benny The Bull (Lucky Lionel-Comet Cat, by Birdonthewire) with a further 9.25-lengths back to 5YO entire Attila's Storm (Forest Wildcat-Sweet Symmetry, by Magesterial). Kentucky-bred Midnight Lute now has 4 wins (also including 2006's Gr3 Perryville Stakes over 7 furlongs on the all-weather surface at Keeneland, plus placed in 2006's Gr1 Malibu Stakes over 7 furlongs at Santa Anita) from 9 starts for US$470,600 earnings.
