Saoirse Abu Wins Irish Gr1 Moyglare Stakes

Monday, 3rd September 2007

In Ireland overnight, former Victorian shuttler Mr Greeley (Gone West-Long Legend, by Reviewer) added a juvenile Gr1 triumph when daughter Saoirse Abu (Mr Greeley-Out Too Late, by Future Storm) followed-up last month's victory over the males in the Gr1 Phoenix Stakes (6 furlongs) at The Curragh with a 1.5-lengths win in the €300,000 (A$480,000) Gr1 Moyglare Stud Stakes (7 furlongs) for 2YO fillies at The Curragh. Saoirse Abu (ridden by Kevin Manning for trainer Jim Bolger) defeated Ballydoyle-trained favourite Listen (Sadler's Wells-Brigid, by Irish River) & Dermot Weld-trained Mad About You (Indian Ridge-Irresistible Jewel, by Danehill). Earlier this season Saoirse Abu (whose Gaelic name translates to "freedom forever" & is from the immediate family of Balanchine & French Gr1 Prix de Diane winner West Wind) finished 2nd in Ireland's Gr3 Swordlestown Stud Sprint Stakes (6 furlongs) at Naas in June & then 3rd in Ireland's Listed Silver Flash Stakes (6 furlongs) at Leopardstown in July.
