Monday, 3rd September 2007

Also in Ireland overnight, Coolmore's NZ Cambridge Stud shuttler Stravinsky (Nureyev-Fire The Groom, by Blushing Groom) added a group success when 6YO gelded sprinter Benbaun (Stravinsky-Escape To Victory, by Salse) scored by a head in the €75,000 (A$120,000) Gr3 Flying Five (5 furlongs) at The Curragh to win this race for the 3rd year in succession. Benbaun (ridden by Pat Smullen for trainer Mark Wallace) defeated 4YO entire Dandy Man (Mozart-Lady Alexander, by Night Shift) & 6YO entire Moss Vale (Shinko Forest-Wolf Cleugh, by Last Tycoon). Earlier this season Benbaun won Ireland's Gr3 Greenlands Stakes (6 furlongs) at The Curragh in May; & last year Benbaun recorded placings in both the UK Gr2 King's Stand Stakes (5 furlongs) at Royal Ascot (behind Australian sprinter Takeover Target) & France's Gr2 Prix Du Gros-Chene (1000m) at Chantilly, plus 3rd in December's Gr1 Hong Kong International Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin.
