Vets Back Emergency Artificial Insemination This Season

Meanwhile veterinarians Derek Major, Ian Duckworth & Neil Walton from the Agnew Banks Equine Clinic have written an open letter to Australia's thoroughbred breeders advocating the "emergency relaxation of artificial breeding restrictions during the current equine influenza crisis". Their plan involves "collection & transport of chilled semen in the key stud areas, & collection & dispatch of semen from shuttle stallions currently impounded at Eastern Creek Quarantine Station". Dr Major (a veterinarian with expertise in artificial breeding in other breeds) said this plan "could allow commencement of scheduled matings to some stallions without delay".
