Flemington Stalls To Outside For Straight Races

Thursday, 6th September 2007

Victoria Racing Club chief executive Dale Monteith announced the starting gates for all Flemington straight races will now be placed against the outside rail, allowing "horses drawn in barriers 20, 19, etc to start from gates nearest to the grandstand side of the course". Monteith noted: "This decision has been taken to make full use of the re-constructed course proper, particularly with its return to racing. Placement of the starting gates against the outside rail of the Flemington straight course will increase the likelihood that runners in these races will be able to race on fresh ground and, importantly, produce even wear across the new track surface. Horses in straight races will be better placed to take advantage of the outside section of the course over the final 500m. Notwithstanding, the entire width of the course will be available to them at all times."
