Georgie Boy Wins US Gr1 Del Mar Futurity

Friday, 7th September 2007

On the US track, George Schwary's home-bred juvenile gelding Georgie Boy (Tribal Rule-Ippodamia, by Peterhof) "unleashed a powerful late run from off the pace & split foes in the stretch" to grab a half-length victory in the US$250,000 Gr1 Del Mar Futurity (7 furlongs on all-weather Polytrack) for 2YOs on the closing day of the summer meeting where "the turf meets the surf" at San Diego's Del Mar track in southern California, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Racing without blinkers for the first time, Georgie Boy (ridden by Garrett Gomez for trainer Kathy Walsh) came from the tail of the 13-horse field to defeat previously unbeaten Gr2-winning colt Salute The Sarge (Forest Wildcat-Dixie Ghost, by Silver Ghost) & favourite Drill Down (El Corredor-Who's Sorry Now, by Ogygian). At his previous start California-bred Georgie Boy finished 2nd in the Gr2 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar on August 12; overall he now has 2 wins (also including the Graduation Stakes at Del Mar on July 25) & 3 placings from 5 starts for US$286,806 earnings.
