Alexander Tango Wins US Gr1 Garden City

Coolmore shuttler Danehill Dancer (Danehill-Mira Adonde, by Sharpen Up) added a US Gr1 triumph (& 6th individual Gr1-winner among 54 stakes-winners) when Irish-bred daughter Alexander Tango (Danehill Dancer-House In Wood, by Wood) "rallied from near the back of the 10-horse field & came 5-wide approaching the stretch" to score a 0.75-lengths victory in her American debut in the US$220,000 Gr1 Garden City Breeders' Cup Handicap (9 furlongs on turf) for 3YO fillies at Belmont Park, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Alexander Tango (ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan for trainer Tommy Stack) defeated Gr3-winner Bit Of Whimsy (Distorted Humor-Kristi B, by El Prado) & multiple graded stakes-winner Sharp Susan (Touch Gold-Winter's Gone, by Dynaformer). Alexander Tango was a 56,000 guineas (A$146,000) weanling at the 2004 UK Tattersalls December Sale; at her previous start she finished runner-up against older horses in Ireland's Gr2 Royal Whip Stakes (10 furlongs) at The Curragh on August 12, following victory (also against older rivals) in Ireland's Listed Kilboy Estates Stakes (9 furlongs) at The Curragh in July. Earlier this season Alexander Tango won Ireland's Gr3 1000 Guineas Trial Stakes (8 furlongs) at Leopardstown in May; & last year she finished 3rd in Ireland's Gr2 Debutante Stakes (7 furlongs) at Leopardstown. Overall Alexander Tango now has 4 wins & 3 placings from 11 starts for US$354,012 earnings.
