Aust Govt $110m Horse Flu Assistance Package

Australia's Federal Minister For Agriculture Fisheries & Forestry Peter McGauran yesterday announced a $110 million assistance package for those suffering hardship due to the equine influenza crisis. It includes: $20 million for workers (such as farriers & horse transport operators) who have either lost their jobs or most of their income because of the horse flu crisis; $45 million (via individual grants of $5,000) for businesses which derive the majority of their income from the commercial horse industry; & $44 million in payments directed towards industry participants who have horses that usually compete & generate an income, but have been unable to do so due to equine influenza & the ban on moving horses.
