Darjina Wins French Gr1 Prix Du Moulin

Monday, 10th September 2007

In France overnight, owner-breeder Princess Zahra Aga Khan's star 3YO filly Darjina (Zamindar-Darinska, by Zilzal) added another Gr1 triumph with a 2-lengths victory over her older rivals in the €400,000 (A$640,000) Gr1 Prix DU Moulin (1600m) at Longchamp in Paris. Despite being the only female in the field, Darjina (ridden by Christophe Soumillon for trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre) defeated Godolphin's Gr1-winning 5YO entire Ramonti (Martino Alonso-Fosca, by El Gran Senor) & Ballydoyle's Gr1-winning 4YO entire George Washington (Danehill-Bordighera, by Alysheba). At her previous start Darjina won France's Gr1 Prix d'Astarte (1600m) at Deauville on July 29; & earlier this season Darjina won both France's Gr3 Prix de la Grotte & then Gr1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas) over 1600m at Longchamp in May, before finishing 3rd in June's UK Gr1 Coronation Stakes (8 furlongs) at Royal Ascot. Overall Darjina now has 5 wins & a placing from 6 starts.
