Darley Buys Shares In Distorted Humor
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum's Darley organisation has "acquired a number of shares" in 14-year-old former Grand Lodge Thoroughbreds shuttler Distorted Humor (Forty Niner-Danzig's Beauty, by Danzig) from Kentucky's WinStar Farm "with the intent of breeding off those shares throughout his career," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Syndicate manager & WinStar president Doug Cauthen commented: "Darley's involvement will further enhance Distorted Humor's legacy as a great sire." Distorted Humor (who stood the 2007 season at WinStar for US$225,000) has sired 316 winners (59 stakes-winners) from 426 starters for US$39,883,054 progeny earnings. His star performers include: US 2003 champion & dual classic winner Funny Cide; Puerto Rican champion older horse Don Dandy; & Gr1 winners Flower Alley, Awesome Humor, Commentator, Fourty Niners Son & Hystericalady. Last month Darley also announced plans to stand Distorted Humor's leading earner of 2007, the US Gr1 Haskell Invitational Stakes-winning 3YO colt Any Given Saturday (Distorted Humor-Weekend In Indy, by A.P.Indy). On the track, Distorted Humor won 8 of 23 starts (including the Gr2 Commonwealth Breeders' Cup Stakes, Gr2 Churchill Downs Handicap, G3 Ack Ack & Gr3 Salvator Mile Handicap) & earned US$769,964 before entering stud in 1999. Distorted Humor is currently North America's co-leading sire of 2007 stakes-winners (with A.P.Indy) with 16 individual stakes-winners.
