Monday, 10th September 2007

Also in New York, Stronach Stables home-bred 4YO mare Ginger Punch (Awesome Again-Nappelon, by Bold Revenue) scored a 0.75-lengths victory in the US$285,000 Gr1 Ruffian Handicap (8.5 furlongs) for fillies & mares at Belmont Park. Favourite Ginger Punch (ridden by Rafael Bejarano for trainer Bobby Frankel) defeated the 4YO stable-mates, Gr1-winner Miss Shop (Deputy Minister-Shopping, by Private Account) & multiple Gr2-winner Teammate (A.P.Indy-Starry Dreamer, by Rubiano) in an exact replica of the placings in July's Gr1 Go For Wand Handicap (9 furlongs) at Saratoga. Overall Ginger Punch has 6 wins (also including July's Gr2 First Flight Handicap at Belmont Park) & 5 runner-ups (including both this season's Gr1 Ogden Phipps Handicap at Belmont in June & Gr2 Vinery Madison Stakes at Keeneland in April) from 12 starts for US$621,279 earnings.
