Ireland Yearlings Final Average Down 15%

Monday, 10th September 2007

Overall during the Ireland Tattersalls Sale, 474 yearlings sold for €8,998,400 (A$14.397m) which was down 16 % on last year's record figure, while the final average of just below €19,000 (A$30,400) was down 15% & the €13,000 (A$20,800) median was down 19% (also both on record figures last year). Managing director George Mernagh summed up: "There is plenty of demand for athletes, but with the number of yearlings around, buyers are less willing to take a chance on horses falling short on conformation or pedigree. It is the 1st time in many years that this sale has not shown an increase on the previous year, which of course is disappointing to us as we would have liked to maintain this growth. However it is worth bearing in mind that last year's sale was a bumper year & our figures this year are still very favourable when compared to 2005."
