Marasco Wins Makybe Diva Stakes

Monday, 10th September 2007

On the Australian track, ill-fated former Durham Lodge stallion Scenic (Sadler's Wells-Idyllic, by Foolish Pleasure) added a group success when 5YO gelding Marasco (Scenic-Bluegrass Belle, by Is It True) scored a 0.75-lengths victory in the $500,000 weight-for-age Gr2 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington in Melbourne. Marasco (ridden by Darren Beadman for trainer Fred Kersley) defeated Gr1-winning fellow 5YO gelding Apache Cat (Lion Cavern-Tennessee Blaze, by Whiskey Road) & fast-finishing 6YO gelding Zipping (Danehill-Social Scene, by Grand Lodge). Marasco took his record to 9 wins (also including last month's Listed Belmont Newmarket over 1200m at Belmont Park & January's Listed Australia Day Stakes over 1200m at Ascot, plus both 2006's Gr3 A.J.Scahill Stakes over 1400m & Gr2 Winterbottom Stakes over 1200m at Ascot) & 5 runner-ups (including last start's Gr2 Liston Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield on August 18, plus March's Gr1 Darley Australian Cup over 2000m at Caulfield & both February's Gr1 Orr Stakes over 1400m & Gr2 St George Stakes over 1800m at Caulfield) from 17 starts for $987,100 earnings.
