Quarantine Of NSW Horses Unlikely For Melb Spring

Monday, 10th September 2007

Meanwhile Racing Victoria's director of racing operations Leigh Jordon revealed that, following discussions between Racing NSW, Racing Victoria & state Chief Veterinary Officers, "it is unlikely that special quarantine arrangements can be put in place in NSW & Victoria to allow horses based in NSW to prepare for the Victorian Spring Racing Carnival" reported racenet.com.au. Jordon said the timeframes involved "make it very difficult for this Spring" noting: "With a minimum of 5 weeks of quarantine required under proposed regulations from the date the horse enters quarantine before it could race, it would be very difficult for a horse to be prepared for this year's Carnival. But we have not lost hope that it can still be done sometime down the track." Racing NSW general manager commercial & racing Greg Rudolph confirmed: "Given the current timeframes & the evolving situation, this looks unrealistic for Spring. But we will keep working with RV & the various authorities & stake-holders on developing an outcome for the future."
