Red Clubs Wins UK Gr1 Sprint Cup

In the UK, dual Australian Gr2-winning Emirates Park-bred sprinter Mutawaajid (Redoute's Choice-Elated Lady, by Vain) finished 4th in the field of 14 as Vinery shuttler Red Ransom (Roberto-Arabia, by Damascus) added a Gr1 triumph (& 10th individual Gr1-winner) when 4YO entire Red Clubs (Red Ransom-Two Clubs, by First Trump) finished strongly from off the pace to score a 0.75-lengths victory in the £300,000 (A$720,000) Gr1 Betfred Sprint Cup (6 furlongs) at Haydock Park. Red Clubs (ridden by Michael Hills for trainer Barry Hills) defeated French-based 4YO gelding Marchand D'Or (Marchand De Sable-Fedora, by Kendor) & fellow 4YO entire Balthazaar's Gift (Xaar-Thats Your Opinion, by Last Tycoon). Earlier this season Red Clubs finished 3rd in the UK Gr1 Darley July Cup (6 furlongs) at Newmarket; & last year he won both the UK Gr2 Diadem Stakes (6 furlongs) at Ascot & UK Gr3 Greenham Stakes (7 furlongs) at Newbury, as well as finishing runner-up in Ireland's Gr3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes (6 furlongs) at The Curragh. Overall Red Clubs now has 5 wins (also including the Gr2 Coventry Stakes, plus placed in the Gr1 Golden Jubilee Stakes) from 23 starts. He is due to stand at Ireland's Tally Ho Stud next year; his dam Two Clubs is an own sister to sprinting sire Petong.
