O'Shea Rules Out HK Dec Option

Wednesday, 12th September 2007

Sydney trainer John O'Shea "has ruled out any chance of Gr1 winners Racing To Win & Reigning To Win making a belated return to racing on overseas soil later this year," reported racenet.com.au. "Because of previous vaccinations, Racing To Win & Reigning To Win are exceptions in a Randwick horse population struck down by equine influenza" & O'Shea lamented: "They are not crook, just bored!" He said it was "pointless continuing to work" the star duo because there were no opportunities to race them now that Victoria & NSW officials had closed the door on special spring quarantine arrangements between the 2 States. And he noted that, while Hong Kong's International Day in December would allow extra time to prepare his horses, "it is not an option" he is willing to explore because "there's no point: I won't be able to race them to get them ready."
