Kentucky Yearlings Cumulative Average Down 23.6%

Thursday, 13th September 2007

Cumulatively over the initial 2 days at Keeneland, 337 yearlings have sold for US$145,377,000 (down 20.5% on last year's 324 sold for US$182,860,000). The cumulative average of US$431,386 is down 23.6% (last year US$564,383) while the cumulative median is exactly the same at US$300,000. Keeneland director of sales Geoffrey Russell told thoroughbredtimes.com: "I think this is what people knew was going to happen. The days of the battles (between Coolmore & Darley for the top lots) might be over for a while. The main difference between this year & last year is 6 horses. (To this point in 2006, 6 horses had sold for US$4.6 million or more, well beyond the top price so far this year of US$3.7 million.) The rest of the sale has been very good & very solid all the way through."
