Rasputin Wins Uruguay Gr1 2000 Guineas

Thursday, 13th September 2007

In South America, Rasputin (Ritz-African Top, by Top Ten) scored a 2.25-lengths victory in Uruguay's Gr1 Gran Premio Polla de Potrillos (Uruguayan 2000 Guineas) for 3YO colts over 1600m on dirt at Maronas to take the 1st leg of the Uruguayan Triple Crown series. (This series was swept 2 years ago by the world's top-ranked racehorse Invasor, who won 11 of 12 starts & recently retired to Shadwell Farm's Nashwan Stud in Kentucky to stand in 2008 for US$35,000.) Rasputin (ridden by Waldemar Maciel for trainer Pablo Grana) defeated previously unbeaten favourite Café Silver (Cafetin-Potri Silver, by Potridoon) & Gomek (Public Purse-L'eminenza, by Shudanz). Last season as a juvenile, Rasputin won the Listed Clasico Antonio Araujo (1000m) & overall now has 3 wins & a runner-up (in the Clasico Ensayo on August 5) from 5 starts.
