Kentucky Yearlings Day-4: US$750k El Prado Colt
English bloodstock agent Charlie Gordon-Watson (acting on behalf of an undisclosed European client) paid US$750,000 for an El Prado colt (out of Gr1-winning Seeking The Gold mare Favorite Funtime) in early action this morning (Australian time) during the 4th session of the 15-day 5,553-lots Keeneland September Yearling Sale in Kentucky. The colt (from the family of Gr1-winner Beau's Eagle) was consigned by Mill Ridge Sales as agent for Golden Eagle Farm's major reduction sale & Gordon-Watson told thoroughbredtimes.com: "He was a great athlete. He had a respectable pedigree & he's a suitable horse for Europe." And Gordon-Watson (who bought 2003 UK Gr1 Epsom Derby winner Kris Kin for US$275,000 at the 2001 September sale) noted the "current 2-to-1 exchange rate of American dollars to English pounds" has encouraged his clients to buy at Keeneland this year: "I've had 1 client here for that very reason & he's bought with dollars what he maybe would have had to pay for in pounds back home: so he's very happy! I think exchange rates have had an effect on this sale. It's just a pity there aren't more European pedigrees to choose from."
