Devil Moon Wins Independent Cranes Stakes

Widden Stud shuttler King Cugat (Kingmambo-Tricky Game, by Majestic Light) added a group success when 4YO mare Devil Moon (King Cugat-Classy Babe, by Masterclass) made it twin group triumphs within a week with a 1-length victory in the $200,000 weight-for-age Gr2 Independent Cranes Stakes (1600m) for mares 4YO & up at Moonee Valley. Devil Moon (ridden by Michael Rodd for trainer Mark Kavanagh) defeated Brom Felinity (Encosta De Lago-Brompton Cross, by El Qahira) & Hidden Strings (Weasel Clause-Shining Sue, by Buoy). Last start Devil Moon won the Gr3 Let's Elope Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on September 8 & overall now has 7 wins (also including April's Listed Port Adelaide Guineas over 1812m at Cheltenham, plus both March's Gr3 Auraria Stakes over 1800m at Morphettville & Listed Nitschke Stakes over 1460m at Cheltenham) & 3 placings (including April's Gr1 SAJC Schweppes Oaks over 2000m & February's Listed Irongate Classic over 1100m) from 15 starts for $530,750 earnings.
