Monday, 17th September 2007

In the UK, George Strawbridge's US home-bred colt Lucarno (Dynaformer-Vignette, by Diesis) scored a 1-length victory in the world's oldest Classic, the £500,000 (A$1.2m) Gr1 English St Leger (14 furlongs) for 3YOs at Doncaster. Lucarno (ridden by Jimmy Fortune for trainer John Gosdeon) defeated fellow colts & Ballydoyle stable-mates, front-running Gr3-winner Mahler (Galileo-Rainbow Goddess, by Rainbow Quest) & favourite Honolulu (Montjeu-Cerulean Sky, by Darshaan). Earlier this season Lucarno (unraced as a 2YO) finished 4th in the G1 English Derby & last start won August's UK Gr2 Great Voltiguer Stakes (12 furlongs) at York; overall he now has 4 wins & 3 placings from 8 starts.
