Monday, 17th September 2007

Coolmore's NZ Cambridge Stud shuttler Stravinsky (Nureyev-Fire The Groom, by Blushing Groom) added a group success when 6YO gelded sprinter Benbaun (Stravinsky-Escape To Victory, by Salse) made it twin Gr3 victories in a fortnight with a 0.75-lengths win in the €75,000 (A$120,000) Gr3 Renaissance Stakes (6 furlongs) at The Curragh. Benbaun (ridden by Pat Smullen for trainer Mark Wallace) defeated 6YO entire Moss Vale (Shinko Forest-Wolf Cleugh, by Last Tycoon) & 3YO colt Prime Defender (Bertolini-Arian Da, by Superlative). Last start on September 2, Benbaun won Ireland's Gr3 Flying Five (5 furlongs) at The Curragh for the 3rd year in succession & now boasts 6 wins on that track (4 in Gr3 events); in addition earlier this season Benbaun won Ireland's Gr3 Greenlands Stakes (6 furlongs) at The Curragh in May. Last year Benbaun recorded placings in both the UK Gr2 King's Stand Stakes (5 furlongs) at Royal Ascot (behind Australian sprinter Takeover Target) & France's Gr2 Prix Du Gros-Chene (1000m) at Chantilly, plus 3rd in December's Gr1 Hong Kong International Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin.
