Ellison Flies To Aust For Bay Story Melb Cup Preparation

Tuesday, 18th September 2007

UK trainer Brian Ellison flew to Australia overnight "to supervise Bay Story's final preparations for what the Malton-based trainer hopes will be a successful shot at the Melbourne Cup in November," reported racingpost.co.uk. Bay Story (Kris S-Sweeping Story, by End Sweep) "has been in Australia since competing at Flemington & in Perth last summer winter and, provided all is well when the trainer arrives, the 6YO will take part in a racecourse trial next week". Ellison confirmed: "The plan then is run him in the Bart Cummings Stakes at Flemington on October 6 & following that, assuming he gets into the Melbourne Cup, that's the route we'll be taking. He's set to carry 50kg in the big one & the Australian handicapper tells me he'd have a good chance of making the cut, judged on last year's declarations. He needs quite a few to come out at this stage, as he's way down the list, but plenty of those above him won't be making the trip from Europe & there are doubts about some of the others because of the equine flu outbreak in Australia." Ellison added: "The lad who went to Australia with Bay Story says he's in great form and, as the prize-money is so good down there, we think we'll leave him where he is to race again right through their spring & summer." Bay Story ran 2nd in January's Gr2 Perth Cup (3200m).
