Scorpion Most Likely Ballydoyle Horse For Melb Cup

Tuesday, 18th September 2007

Meanwhile a decision "on whether Ballydoyle will be represented in the Gr1 Melbourne Cup on November 6 is likely to be made later this week," reported racingpost.co.uk. While trainer Aidan O'Brien "has 3 possible contenders" in Yeats, Scorpion & Septimus, "of the trio Scorpion could be the most likely to head Down Under". O'Brien summed up: "We haven't decided about Melbourne & whether we will have a runner. None of them is being ruled out just yet, but Yeats went there last year & we could be looking at training him for another UK Gr1 Ascot Gold Cup bid next year. Scorpion is certainly a possible at this stage, while there is the French Gr1 Prix du Cadran & other races to look at for Septimus. We will have to make a decision fairly soon, as if we are going to send a horse for the Melbourne Cup they will have to go in quarantine within the next couple of weeks."
