Septimus Win Rated Best Of UK Season

Tuesday, 18th September 2007

The weekend's 5-lengths victory by Aidan O'Brien-trained 4YO entire & Melbourne Cup entrant Septimus (Sadler's Wells-Caladira, by Darshaan) in new track record time in the Gr2 Doncaster Cup (18 furlongs) earned the highest Racing Post Rating registered by any stayer this season," reported racingpost.co.uk. Septimus was rated 125: a figure "superior to both the mark achieved by Lucarno in taking the UK Gr1 St Leger at Doncaster (121) & the rating given to Yeats following his victory in the Gr1 Irish St Leger at The Curragh (122)". Racing Post senior handicapper Paul Curtis commented: "Septimus's Doncaster Cup win deserves to be rated the best staying performance of this season, but I would hesitate to call him the best stayer because Yeats still has an RPR of 126 on file from his victory in last season's Goodwood Cup and, on that basis, there can't be a lot between them."
