Steroid Testing For 2008 Kentucky Sale

Tuesday, 18th September 2007

Meanwhile sales companies in Kentucky "may allow buyers to have their purchases tested for the use of steroids, possibly as soon as next year," reported thoroughbredinternet.com. Keeneland sales director Geoffrey Russell confirmed: "Regardless if it's reality, there is a perception. And if it is of great concern to buyers, we need to address it. So we intend to do that." Russell added he expects the policy "to be in place next year". Similarly Fasig-Tipton chief operating officer Boyd Browning said steroid testing "will be implemented" by his company, but the policy "may not be ready in time for next year". Browning noted the policy "initially would be for Kentucky", but would "likely expand to other states" where Fasig-Tipton conducts sales.
