Chester Says January Magic Millions "No Hope"
Magic Millions managing director David Chester revealed the annual January date for his company's flagship Queensland Gold Coast yearling sale is "no hope" but he is hoping a February date can be arranged. Chester (along with Queensland Racing Chairman Bob Bentley & MM director Rob Ferguson) is meeting Racing NSW officials tomorrow in an attempt to agree upon a revised schedule for next year's major racing & sale dates. He emphasised the Magic Millions January Sale runs hand-in-hand with its racing carnival & both events need to be staged simultaneously: "We must have the sale & our feature races on at the same time, but in fairness we have to give all trainers every opportunity to qualify their horses for it. If this was just a Queensland sale we would probably be right to go ahead on its current date; but a lot of big buyers, trainers & vendors come from NSW & it wouldn't be fair on them. I expect Inglis will also be represented (at the meeting with Racing NSW) & hopefully we can work together & settle on dates for next year, so we can let our vendors know & start to move forward again."
